MINUS 20 MUSIC

Crisp & Clear Audio Recordings

Under the banner Minus 20 Music, Nigel Baines makes high quality audio-video recordings of acoustic genres of music for both professional and amateur soloists and ensembles.

Using tried-and-true recording techniques and state-of the-art microphones, we realistically capture the artistic expression, tone and dynamics of the musician’s performance and the natural acoustics of venues.

In addition to recording and mixing music for amateur and professional musicians, Minus 20 Music has a series of exciting,  multi-media music projects in the works.

Cool Cultural Projects & Recordings

The Boyd McDonald Project

The Boyd McDonald Project explores the huge contributions to the Canadian music scene made by the inspiring and unstoppable Boyd McDonald as a concert soloist, chamber musician, composer and teacher/mentor.

A virtuoso pianist and prolific composer now in his 90th year,  Boyd  continues to give regular concerts and performs with the dexterity and energy of a musician half his age.  He’s also in the process of writing an opera.

Since 2019, under the banner Minus 20 Music, Nigel Baines has made over 40 audio visual recordings of Boyd McDonald’s music and created an important music archive of his compositions, featuring performances by Boyd himself and by the many acclaimed musicians who adore him, including Guy Few and Christine Vanderkooy.

Current projects underway include a documentary about Boyd McDonald entitled From the City of Bridges to the City of Lights, as well as  concerts in Ontario and Saskatchewan. Podcasts and an album of Boyd’s music recorded during the covid outbreak are also in the works.
